Local News in Brief : Peninsula Post Office Torn Down

Share

The main Post Office serving the Palos Verdes Peninsula has been razed.

A new facility about twice its size will be built on the site at 955 Deep Valley Drive in Rolling Hills Estates. Construction crews began tearing down the building last week, a Postal Service spokeswoman said. The new office will open in about a year.

A temporary post office--where customers can buy stamps and mail packages has been set up on the third floor of a building at 501 Crossfield Drive in Rolling Hills Estates. The facility is next to the Peninsula Center mall.

Postal officials said the new building is needed to alleviate crowded conditions. The old post office was built in 1964 and was too small to accommodate the peninsula’s 104 mail carriers. The project is expected to cost $9.9 million.
