Iraq is working to extend the range of a cluster missile that explodes 500 feet above its target and releases 200 small bomblets, a senior Iraqi military officer said. Speaking to reporters at a military display in Baghdad, the officer said the 262-millimeter Ababil surface-to-surface missile now has a range of 35 miles and is being refined to have a range of 70 miles. He said other types of missiles with ranges up to 140 miles are under development. The officer said Iraq manufactures all of the arms it displayed.
