Montenegrin Interior Minister Lazar Djodjic resigned, bowing to the demands of workers and striking students protesting the use of police to disperse demonstrators, an official of the Yugoslav republic said. Djodjic submitted his resignation at a session of Montenegro’s Cabinet in the capital of Titograd in southeastern Yugoslavia, the official told reporters. The Parliament of Montenegro, one of Yugoslavia’s six republics, will meet Oct. 25 to approve or reject Djodjic’s resignation. It also plans to take a vote of confidence in the government. Djodjic’s resignation marked the latest turmoil for Yugoslavia’s leaders since the eruption of protests in the last two weeks. The protesters have called for reforming the economy.
