The 1.6-million-member Teamsters Union will announce its endorsement Monday of the presidential campaign of Vice President George Bush, the Boston Herald reported Thursday.

In making its endorsement, the union will cite a survey of rank-and-file Teamsters members that found a majority support Bush, the Herald said, quoting unnamed sources within the Bush campaign and the Republican Party.

Teamsters spokesman Duke Zeller confirmed that recently elected Teamsters President William J. McCarthy will hold a news conference Monday in Florida, but he declined to say whether an endorsement was planned.

“I don’t think a decision’s been made,” said Zeller, adding that presidential preference responses of about 25,000 Teamsters were still being compiled this week.
