Four illegal aliens pleaded guilty Tuesday to charges of raping a 22-year-old Santee woman in Balboa Park in August.

Gabriel Gutierrez, 22, Jose de Jesus Hernandez-Leyva, 24, Michael DeLeon, 19, and Manuel Ponce Renteria, 21, will be sentenced Nov. 15 by Judge Robert J. Stahl.

Each faces nine years in jail and a possible $10,000 fine. They remain in jail in lieu of $100,000 bail.

Two others also charged in the case are in custody, said San Diego Police Detective Arthur Cavada.

Deputy Dist. Atty. Wes Schermann said he was satisfied with the outcome, even though other assault charges against the defendants were dropped.

The victim told police she was attacked by the four men and two juveniles between 6:30 and 7 a.m. Aug. 22 in some bushes near the Laurel Street bridge. She said she was forced at knifepoint into the bushes.

Originally released because the victim was unable to identify her attackers, the four were deported to Mexico. However, they were later arrested in the park near the area where the attack took place.
