Iranian Speaker of Parliament Hashemi Rafsanjani said that Iran should consider arming itself with chemical and biological weapons, the Iranian news agency IRNA reported. “Chemical and biological weapons are the poor man’s atomic bombs and can easily be produced. We should at least consider them for our defense,” the agency quoted Rafsanjani, who also heads the military, as telling a gathering of army commanders. Iran has denied charges by Iraq that it used chemical arms in the Persian Gulf War, while Iraq has been accused of using poison gas on Kurdish rebels.
