Defense Secretary Frank C. Carlucci called on the military services Thursday to participate next week in National Drug Free America Week by wearing red ribbons and flying red banners.

Pentagon spokesman Maj. David Super said civilians employed by the services and military personnel in civilian clothes will be encouraged to wear red ribbons saying “The choice for me--Drug Free.”

Banners with the same words will be flown at the Pentagon’s shopping concourse and at military bases around the country, he said.

The nationwide campaign was developed by the National Federation of Parents for Drug Free Youth and the Federation of Drug Free Youth of America, two independent groups, the Pentagon statement said.
