Local News in Brief : Slum Charges Filed Against Hotel Owner

Share

The owner of a Skid Row hotel, which under a previous owner was the target of a narcotics abatement lawsuit for allegedly being a “cesspool of drug dealing,” has been accused of maintaining a slum.

Vincent Cobos, 31, who purchased the Travelers Hotel last November, was charged by City Atty. James K. Hahn with 16 misdemeanor violations of various fire, health and building and safety codes. Slum conditions at the 29-unit structure include unclean and unsanitary conditions and damaged walls, floors and ceilings, Hahn said. Cobos is scheduled to be arraigned in Municipal Court on Nov. 10.

Hahn said the drug-trafficking problem at the hotel has been cleaned up since he filed suit last year against the previous owner.
