John Treacy, the 1984 Olympic silver medalist in the men’s marathon, will compete in the Nov. 6 New York City Marathon, organizers announced.

Treacy’s second-place finish in the Los Angeles Games, in his first marathon, made him Ireland’s first Olympic track and field medalist since 1956, when Ron Delany won the 1,500 meters.

This year, Treacy finished third in the Boston Marathon in 2 hours 9 minutes 15 seconds, his best time ever, and dropped out of the Olympic marathon after 12.4 miles.
