Conservationists have negotiated an option to buy 12,000 acres of wilderness near Lake Tahoe dotted with timber and glacier-carved lakes and popular with recreationists. “This will be a magnificent acquisition,” said Sonia Jacques, project manager for Trust for Public Land. The purchase agreement was made with Redding-based Sierra Pacific Industries, which acquired the land in February from Santa Fe Pacific Realty Co. The option covers parcels between Soda Springs and Donner Summit. The property is expected to be transferred to the U.S. Forest Service and added to the Tahoe National Forest to be permanently designated for public recreation and wildlife habitat.
