Thanks, Mickey, but. . . . United Nations officials have decided that Mickey Mouse cannot serve as goodwill ambassador for the world’s underprivileged children after all. Officials said Tuesday that the world body had abandoned the idea of making Mickey a global envoy for UNICEF, the U.N. Children’s Fund. A UNICEF representative explained that goodwill ambassadors like Liv Ullmann, Peter Ustinov and Audrey Hepburn go on tour to highlight the plight of needy Third World children, and no one could figure out how a cinematic entity could take on the assignment. Somebody from Disney in a Mickey Mouse suit would not be appropriate, the official said.
