British University Evicts Family of 12
A 42-year-old British student, his pregnant wife and 10 children were evicted from a university dormitory on Monday after they fell behind in their rent.
A spokesman at Southampton University in southern England told reporters its student accommodations were not equipped to handle such a large family.
Dannie Walter, studying for a philosophy degree, his wife, who is expecting another child, and 10 of their children, aged 18 months to 16 years, had been living in 10 student rooms.
The spokesman said the family was $3,500 in arrears on its $335 weekly rent. Welfare authorities have agreed to house the family in a hotel.
