Chun Offers to Give Up Wealth
Former President Chun Doo Hwan is ready to surrender his wealth to stop the escalating demonstrations demanding his punishment, ruling party sources said today.
The officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, said Chun would surrender most of his assets if President Roh Tae Woo ensures the former president’s safety. Chun has about $5.7 million in personal assets, the sources said. Chun and his family have been embroiled by allegations of corruption and human rights abuses under his government. The National Assembly is conducting an unprecedented investigation into the allegations.
