The parents of Mohammed Ali Hamadi testified at his trial in Frankfurt, West Germany, with his father saying the confessed hijacker was under 21 at the time of the incident and his mother saying he was innocent. The defendant burst into tears when his mother entered the courtroom. Hamadi, a Lebanese Shia Muslim, is charged with murder and air piracy in the June, 1985, hijacking of a TWA jetliner to Beirut. Hamadi has admitted taking part in the hijacking but denied the murder charge. If it is determined that he was under 21 at the time of the hijacking, he would be subject to a maximum sentence of 15 years rather than life in prison.
