Probing the Extent of Major Psychiatric Illnesses

If you want to sell a new product, you have to create a demand. If you are a drug company and have just synthesized Ritalin, Thorazine, Valium or even LSD, then you must convince someone that these potential profit-makers will solve their problems. A sneaky way to do this is to reclassify those problems as “mental illness,” thus creating an instant market for drug “solutions,” which then qualify for funding through insurance benefits.

Character used to be an operative word in America. Problem solving used to deal with issues of free will, ethics, responsibility and self-respect. These were important issues to be resolved in the home, the church and the school.

With the rapid deterioration of these institutions, the mental health profession, in its dark partnership with the multibillion-dollar-a-year drug industry, wants to fill the vacuum with drugs. It wants us to believe that character is preempted by wayward brain chemicals, and is “corrected” with more chemicals. This is fraudulent and a degradation of the human spirit.
