Jerry Hall--Mick Jagger’s live-in love--has signed aboard as the Joker’s goyl in “Batman,” currently filming in London for director Tim Burton. Aficionados of the caped crusader should applaud news that look-alike Pat Hingle is playing Commissioner Gordon and vet character actor Michael Gough dusts in as Alfred the butler. Also appearing (ever so briefly) is Ricky Addison Reid as Robin. . . . . Jurgen Prochnow squares off against Roy Scheider in Kodiak’s “The Fourth War,” a February shoot in Finland. The “what if” yarn by Stephen Peters paints the consequences of U.S.-Soviet generals engaging in a remote border war. John Frankenheimer directs for producer Wolf Schmidt. . . . . Lionel Stander plays the oldest living beat reporter in Larry Cohen’s “The Ambulance,” a Trans World production to film in NYC next February. The story has Stander on the trail of the title vehicle which is mysteriously abducting Gotham residents. And you thought the subway was scary!

How do you follow up an Oscar win? Director Sydney Pollack has been mulling that question since his “Out of Africa” win three years ago--and appears to have decided the answer is Terel Tannen’s script of “The Man Who Gave Up His Name.” Based upon Jim Harrison’s mid-life crisis novel, it could go as early as next March for Universal. . . . . Ernest Borgnine ventures to Namibia to play a scientist in the indie “Laser Mission.” Brandon Lee, son of Bruce, co-stars as a high-kicking (natch) defender of freedom. . . . . Ron Howard is gearing up to go back behind the cameras next March with “Untitled Parenting” for Universal. Lowell Ganz and Babaloo Mandel wrote the original screenplay . . . . The Coen Brothers--Joel and Ethan--may put the gangster film on its ear with “Miller’s Crossing,” a yarn of Roaring ‘20s lawlessness in Chicago to film next January in (huh?) New Orleans. It’s a Circle Films production for Fox. . . . . Tony-winner Joanna Gleason is the latest addition to “Woody Allen’s Next,” a comedy.
