Professor 1st Chinese to Visit Taiwan Since ’49

TAIPEI, Taiwan —
A professor at a Beijing university became the first Chinese resident since 1949 to visit Taiwan when she flew to the island for an emotional reunion with her 94-year-old father.
Qian Yi, 52, daughter of Taiwan historian Chien Mu, arrived on Monday evening and was whisked away by relatives to visit her father who is gravely ill.
“I’m delighted,” she told reporters at her father’s home on Tuesday.
