Federal land-management agencies announced plans to recommend more than 300 rivers on public land as candidates for the National Wild and Scenic Rivers System, potentially tripling the number of rivers and streams protected from dams and development. Officials from the U.S. Forest Service, National Park Service and Bureau of Land Management unveiled their plans at a news conference sponsored by American Rivers, a conservation group interested in river protection.
