MANAGUA, Nicaragua —
The Sandinista government announced Friday that it is issuing bank notes and coins of higher value.
A new 5,000-cordoba note, worth $2.50, is five times as large as the biggest bill that was in circulation.
When it was first issued in February as part of a massive devaluation, the 1,000-cordoba note was worth $100. Today it is worth 50 cents.
