A company controlled by renowned investor Warren E. Buffett sold most of its 3.2% stake in 20th Century Industries, a major California auto insurer based in Woodland Hills, during the third quarter. National Indemnity Co., a unit of Berkshire Hathaway Inc., an Omaha conglomerate controlled by Buffett, sold 767,500 of the 818,900 shares of 20th Century that it bought early this year, according to National Indemnity’s latest report to the Nebraska Insurance Department. Buffett paid an average of slightly more than $18 a share for the stock and sold it for just over $19 a share. The stock closed Friday at $16.125 in over-the-counter trading.
