Dozens of people, including seven current or former police officers, have been accused of being involved with a ring that sold liquor and currency on the black market, the Zycie Warszawy daily newspaper reported Tuesday.

The ring sold tens of thousands of quarts of vodka at black-market outlets and bought or sold thousands of U.S. dollars on the black market, an internal affairs spokesman, Capt. Andrzej Zaczynski, was quoted as saying.

He said there also was evidence of corruption of police officers through bribery.

The investigation, initiated by the Warsaw police department, has been going on since June. Prosecutors will send a formal indictment to the courts by mid-December, Zaczynski said, according to the newspaper.
