Maggie May’s Day

Rod Stewart’s wooed so many women in his songs that it was inevitable one would end up going Hollywood. The lucky gal: Maggie May.

Producer Arnold Stiefel (also Stewart’s manager) just notched a development deal at Columbia Pictures for “Maggie May,” a teen-boy/older-woman romance “inspired” by the 1971 Stewart hit.

“We were negotiating to get the film rights to Tracy Chapman’s hit, ‘Fast Car,’ ” said Stiefel. “When suddenly I thought--wait a minute--look at all the great songs we have in-house, from Rod’s own career.

“Rod’s always being approached to do songs in other people’s films, so we thought it would be a real challenge to draw from his own work.” (Stewart’s songs have appeared in “Legal Eagles,” “The Sure Thing,” “Innerspace” and “Star 80.”)

Stiefel said the film will be accompanied by generous doses of Stewart music, old and brand new.

Meanwhile, Stiefel is developing “Young Elvis,” a father-son drama set during the King’s last year at Humes High in Memphis, for Fox. Elvis authority Sandra Harmon, who wrote the best-seller “Elvis and Me” with Priscilla Presley, is scripting.
