Coach Buddy Ryan of the Philadelphia Eagles...
Coach Buddy Ryan of the Philadelphia Eagles was hospitalized in good condition after choking on a piece of pork chop during dinner, and a quick-thinking assistant was credited with saving his life.
Ryan was dining at the Press Club in Veterans Stadium when he began choking. Offensive coach Ted Plumb jumped up and administered the Heimlich maneuver.
“I think Ted Plumb’s quick action saved his life,” an Eagle spokesman said. “He (Plumb) had been in this situation once before. He knew what to do.”
Doctors were optimistic that Ryan would be able to coach in Sunday’s game against the Washington Redskins.
