Loyola Women Cagers to Face Tough Bruins

Share

The Loyola Marymount women’s basketball team will play its toughest non-conference game of the season tonight when the Lions play host to UCLA at 7:30 in Gersten Pavilion.

Loyola, 2-1, is coming off two straight victories, the latest Wednesday over Southern California College, 81-38, and a good performance in the Titan Classic at Cal State Fullerton. In the 2-game tournament, sophomore center Tricia Gibson had 36 points, 16 rebounds and blocked 8 shots in being named to the all-tournament team. Sophomore guard Kristen Bruich is chipping in 12.5 points and 5 assists a game. In a victory over St. Mary’s she had 16 points, 6 assists and 6 steals.

Like Loyola, UCLA is young, with only two seniors, 6-1 forward Althea Ford and 6-3 Dana Childs, who doesn’t start. However, the Bruins (0-2) have talent, including redshirt point guard Michelle Miles, swing player Michele Wootton, 6-3 center Molly Tideback and 6-4 freshman Lynn Kamrath. Tideback and Wootton lead the team at 11 points apiece.
