Two Terrails

I was pleased to read Laurie Ochoa’s article on Patrick Terrail (“Are You Ready for the New Ma Maison?” Nov. 27).

I worked the door with Patrick at Ma Maison in 1978. Ochoa’s story brought back the very best of my memories while at work at the restaurant and especially of Patrick himself.

Of all the individuals that have helped mold my place in the restaurant business, without question, Patrick has meant the most to me. I admire his abilities, dedication and willingness to make his dreams come true. I’ve always considered him the consummate professional.

I have many stories involving Patrick, but the one that seems most appropriate here would be the following. One especially busy, wild, crazy day he turned to me in the middle of the chaos and said sincerely, “I love this business.”

I love it too, and I try to remember him when the moments of pressure get too close to affecting my sanity. Bravo, Patrick, and bravo, Calendar, for giving him the space he deserves. He earned it. Los Angeles is very fortunate to have him back where he belongs.
