Derek Johnson hit a 3-point shot with 4 seconds left in overtime to give Orange Coast College a 76-73 victory over Santa Barbara City College in the championship game of the Orange Coast Miles Eaton tournament Saturday night at OCC.

OCC had controlled in the first half, taking a 28-21 halftime lead. But Santa Barbara came back in the second half, scoring 3-pointers and stepping up the tempo, to forge a 63-63 tie at the end of regulation.

The Pirates had a chance to win in regulation when Dareck Crane worked the ball into the key for a 10-foot jump shot that bounced off the rim, sending the game into overtime.

“We couldn’t ask for a better shot,” OCC Coach Tandy Gillis said. “It just didn’t go in.”

Crane led the Pirates with 16 points. Johnson, who finished with 14 points, helped hold back Santa Barbara’s second half charge when he hit back-to-back 3-pointers to give OCC a 60-53 advantage.
