This country’s National Recording Academy and the Soviet Union’s Gosteleradio (the state committee of radio and television) have agreed to a joint production in 1989 of a TV special showcasing the musical past and present of the two nations. The unprecedented American/ Soviet co-production--tentatively tited “What a Wonderful World”--will highlight joint performances by artists from both countries, including American stars of Russian heritage, and will be presented from venues in Moscow and New York and/or Hollywood. . . .Meanwhile, the U.S. branch office of the Soviet state recording monolpoly Melodiya, is holding a Century Citypress conference Dec. 14 in which Soviet representatives are expected to discuss the signing of American artists under the Melodiya label.
