We can all eat a little more heartily: The Food and Drug Administration reported that food sold in the United States shows little or no detectable pesticide residues. In food tests conducted from Oct. 1, 1986, through Sept. 30, 1987, the agency found that out of 14,492 samples analyzed, less than 1% of the foods tested had residues that exceeded federal tolerance levels.
