Sean Shapert’s penalty-kick goal with 10:06 to play in the first half gave Indiana a 1-0 victory over Howard University at Bloomington, Ind., for the NCAA Division I soccer championship.
Shapert’s ninth goal of the season gave the No. 9-ranked Hoosiers their third national title. They also won in 1982 and ’83.
Indiana finished the season 19-3-3 and snapped a 24-game unbeaten streak by No. 7 Howard, which was 19-1-1.
