Carlucci Visits Navy Vessel in Persian Gulf

MANAMA, Bahrain —
Defense Secretary Frank C. Carlucci visited a U.S. Navy vessel in the northern Persian Gulf on Tuesday, carrying the message that American efforts helped end the Iraq-Iran War.
The Pentagon chief flew by helicopter to the combat barge Hercules, anchored off Saudi Arabia.
Carlucci later flew to Riyadh, the Saudi capital, for meetings with senior defense officials before heading for Kuwait, the last stop on his five-day gulf tour.
