International Multifoods Corp. directors have approved a more than $15-million, two-year capital program to modernize and expand frozen food operations in Riverside. The addition of 42,000 square feet will increase production capacity by 20% and also cut the number of employees needed for the plant’s operation, Multifoods said. The Minneapolis-based company, Minnesota’s eighth largest, said it expects the plant to employ 500 to 600 people in the next one to two years, a reduction from the present total of about 700. The firm expects to achieve the cuts by attrition.
