19 Cave Explorers Trapped for 5 Days in Swiss Caverns

MUOTATHAL, Switzerland —
Floodwaters trapped 19 cave explorers nearly 2,000 feet underground for five days before they were rescued unharmed, the expedition leader said.
Rescuers used rubber rafts to ferry the 14 youths, aged 11 to 18, and five adult guides to safety Thursday night.
The group entered Hoelloch, one of Europe’s largest systems of underground caverns and pools, for a one-day tour a week ago Saturday but was cut off when heavy rain flooded part of the cave system.
