A federal bankruptcy judge has approved a request by attorneys representing William Herbert Hunt and Nelson Bunker Hunt to forestall any Commodity Futures Trading Commission action while the brothers work out their bankruptcy settlements. In a civil complaint against the Hunts, the CFTC claims the brothers and others rigged the price of silver futures between the fall of 1979 and March, 1980. A spokesman for the Hunt brothers said the ruling blocks the CFTC from pressing its claim against the Hunts until either their Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings or appeals involving a suit with the Peruvian government company Minpeco SA are complete, which could take 12 to 14 months.
