Two more record prices for famous artists were established over the weekend. “Herod’s Census,” a painting by the 16th-Century Flemish artist Pieter Brueghel was sold at the Parisian auction house Druout for $870,000, a record for the painter, while in Venice, Italy, a work by the 18th-Century artist Canaletto was sold for 1.4 billion lire ($1.01 million), a record amount for a Venetian artist’s work. The identities of the purchasers were not revealed.
