Iran has put more than 300 people to death in the biggest wave of political executions since the early 1980s, Amnesty International said. The London-based human rights organization said evidence of mass executions since July is indisputable and that the true death toll could be in the thousands. “Nobody really knows how many people have been put to death--just as nobody knows when the killing will stop or who will die next,” the organization said. Amnesty International said that opposition activists, many of them leftists, have been killed secretly in prisons throughout Iran.
