Ishaq Khan Takes Office

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan —
Ghulam Ishaq Khan, 73, was sworn in as Pakistan’s president Tuesday at a brief ceremony in the Hall of the Presidency in Islamabad. Chosen by an electoral college of the Senate, National Assembly and the four provincial assemblies, he succeeds President Zia ul-Haq, who died Aug. 17 in a plane crash.
