Former Claremont College President Given Award

Howard R. Bowen, former president of Claremont Graduate School and professor emeritus of economics and education, has received the Distinguished Research Award, which the Assn. for the Study of Higher Education gives annually for contributions in research that advance understanding of higher education.

Bowen has written 14 books on education, two of which won the Ness Book Award, given annually for the book judged to be the most significant contribution to studies on liberal education. Bowen has been president of the University of Iowa and Grinnell College and has headed several national education organizations.
