Culver City : Vote on Housing Delayed

Share

A decision on a proposal to build a 3-story, 100-unit housing facility for the elderly was delayed after the Culver City Council deadlocked, 2 to 2, this week. Councilman Richard Alexander was absent.

Mayor Paul A. Jacobs, who along with Councilwoman Jozelle Smith supported the project, said the item would be rescheduled when Alexander, who was ill, could attend a council meeting to break the tie.

Councilmen James Boulgarides and Steven Gourley opposed the project, saying it is too large and does not provide enough parking spaces. In addition, Boulgarides sought to have 20 units set aside for residents with low or moderate incomes.

A spokesman for the developer, Goldrich & Kest Industries, agreed at the Monday meeting to increase the number of parking spaces from 50 to 60, but was hesitant to set aside 20 units for low- and moderate-income residents.
