$1.59 Million Damages Given for Airport Noise

TOKYO —
The Japanese government was ordered Friday to pay 319 residents of a southern Japanese city $1.59 million in damages to compensate them for suffering caused by noise at their local airport. Those compensated were among 507 residents of Fukuoka, 560 miles southwest of Tokyo, who filed civil suits in 1976 and 1981 against the government.
