Vreni Schneider of Switzerland won a World Cup women’s slalom at Altenmarkt, Austria, an event that also counts toward the season’s first combined.
Schneider was timed in 46.43 and 48.65 seconds for a total time of 1:35.08.
Second, in probably the biggest skiing surprise this season, was Yugoslavia’s Katjusa Pusnik, who was clocked in 1.35.56.
Tamara McKinney, of Squaw Valley, Calif., who posted the fastest time in the first run with a 45.88, placed third with a total of 1:35.63.
