A hacker who has been browsing through the unclassified computer system at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory nuclear weapons center for two weeks has been contacted and is under investigation by the FBI, the lab reported. No arrests have been made. “In a communication, he regretted the difficulty caused by his actions and agreed to stop accessing LLNL computers,” lab spokesman Jeff Garberson said. Neither lab nor FBI officials would say how or when the contact was made. The hacker has been roaming through the lab’s Internet system, which links research facilities and universities throughout the nation, but no data and files have been destroyed.
