Condominium Construction Increases 70%

This is “the year of the condo” in San Diego County, with a 70% increase in condominium building activity for the first 10 months of this year compared to the same period in 1987, according to the apartment and condominium report of John Burnham & Co.

Nearly half the permits were issued in October, an apparent expression of concern by builders over city and county slow-growth ballot propositions, according to Burnham’s George Carlson. All four growth-control measures were rejected by voters in the November election, he added.

Through October, building permits valued at $363,214,279 (5,659 units) were issued; for the same period last year, the valuation was $213,687,796 (3,977 units).
