Defend Right to Be Stupid

Re Roger Simon’s “The True Cost of Motorcycle Accidents” (Dec. 11): I agree that not wearing a motorcycle helmet is stupid. I also agree that my right to be stupid is a God-given right. I appreciate that it’s fine with Simon if I want to be stupid. And, if I should have an accident, I certainly won’t ask him to also be stupid and pay for it.

Here’s the sensible solution. Require completion of a comprehensive riding course. And require sufficient financial responsibility to cover any contingencies, including long-term medical care.
