About 2,500 activists converged on Columbus Circle in New York for a massive housing rights march led by the Rev. Jesse Jackson, the same day a homeless man was found dead in what was believed to be the city’s sixth weather-related death of the cold season. Bundled in coats and scarves to ward off freezing temperatures, the protesters, including hundreds of homeless men and women, marched to 5th Avenue with signs reading “Housing Is a Human Right” and “Homes Not Shelters,” past posh eateries and shops crowded with holiday shoppers and tourists.
