Salvadoran Rebels Kill 3 in Attacks

SAN SALVADOR — Leftist rebels dressed as government soldiers killed a civil defense commander and, in a separate ambush, killed two soldiers and wounded 12, the army said Wednesday.
Local army sources said Farabundo Marti National Liberation Front rebels dressed as counterinsurgency troops killed the civil defense commander in the town of San Jose Villanueva, 15 miles south of San Salvador.
Meanwhile, a patrol headed toward San Jose Villanueva to reinforce a civil defense outpost was ambushed by a group of guerrillas, the army said. Two soldiers were killed and 12 wounded in that attack.
