El Salvador’s Supreme Court struck down a request for the United States to extradite a former army captain accused in the 1980 killing of Roman Catholic Archbishop Oscar Arnulfo Romero. The court held that there was not enough evidence to link Alvaro Saravia to the slaying and that Atty. Gen. Giron Flores had no authority to ask the United States to return Saravia for trial. The government accuses Saravia of arranging Romero’s killing on orders from Roberto D’Aubuisson, a political leader of the far right.
