WORLD : PLO Saudi Office Made an Embassy
Saudi Arabia has decided to upgrade the PLO’s office in the kingdom to an embassy as of Jan. 1, the Saudi Foreign Ministry said today.
“The government of Saudi Arabia has decided to consider the Palestine Liberation Organization office in Riyadh the embassy of Palestine,” it said in a statement carried by the official Saudi Press Agency. It said the PLO’s representative in Riyadh would have the rank of ambassador. PLO Chairman Yasser Arafat, due to visit the kingdom next week, declared a Palestinian state last month. The PLO says the state has been recognized by more than 90 nations.
