WASHINGTON — Salvadoran President Jose Napoleon Duarte, suffering from liver cancer, has been released from Walter Reed Army Medical Center, where he received routine evaluation, a hospital spokesman said today.
Duarte, 63, was admitted to the Washington hospital Monday evening and was released Wednesday. “He received a scheduled evaluation and doctors seemed pleased with his condition,” Walter Reed spokesman James Stueve said, adding Duarte “went down to his car and caught a flight to Miami.” During his visit to Walter Reed in May, 1988, Duarte’s condition was diagnosed as untreatable liver cancer. Since then, he has received chemotherapy.
