World : Chile Acts to End Journalist Trials

SANTIAGO, Chile —
The military government here said today it will seek to put a rapid end to the trials of about 40 journalists who face charges before military and other courts.
It said that President Augusto Pinochet had ordered an immediate halt to those cases being tried before civil courts and that the government would “do its best to put a prompt end” to proceedings before military tribunals.
