* CelluLand, a San Diego-based franchiser of cellular telephone retail outlets, has named Carroll D. McHenry its new president and chief executive officer, effective Jan. 16.

McHenry is leaving his position as president of American Cellular Communications of Jackson, Miss., to join CelluLand. ACC is a joint venture of BellSouth Corp. and Mobile Communications Corp. of America, which manages ownership positions in cellular carriers in various metropolitan areas, including Los Angeles.

McHenry replaces Marvin Davis, a partner with the consulting group of Grisanti, Galef & Goldress, who was brought in as interim chief executive officer in September by InterVen Partners, a Los Angeles-based venture capital firm and CelluLand’s largest shareholder. Davis will remain as chairman of CelluLand’s board of directors.

InterVen and the Morgan Roberts venture firm of La Jolla placed $2 million with CelluLand in September. The funds have been used mainly to increase CelluLand’s marketing program in San Diego and other areas.

McHenry, who has been on CelluLand’s board of directors since June, worked at IBM’s Data Processing Division in marketing and management positions from 1968 to 1979. He is a graduate of Northeast Louisiana University.
